THE TRUTH OF SMIT CHAOS.
1. The college authority was unable to act against the 25 students when they attacked a single local student at college security gate, showing their inefficiency.
2. Bihari non-locals formed a mob for a seemingly small fight and rioted against the locals.
3. Biased demands were placed by the bihari non-local group, demanding the rustication of local teachers and faculty, primarily targeting Mr. Kamal Thakur (Hostel Superintendent).
4. The college authority failed to take immediate actions to break the mob formation.
5. College authority and the police officials turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the offensive language and disturbing slogans like “SIKKIM HAI HAI”, and “CHINKIS GO BACK TO CHINA.”
6. The bihari non-locals tried to make it a State-level communal, racist and political fight by projecting a false image of the local students and eventually of Sikkim.
7. Local students faced injustice as we were the ones who were contained while the other mob was vandalizing college property.
8. It was an internal affair within the college involving college students only, yet a member of Bihari Jagaran Manch from Rangpo came and expressed full support to the bihari non-local mob. Whereas we did not seek any external help for we wanted to maintain the tranquility or whatever was left of it.
9. The police took no actions against the vandals when they were destroying college property in the presence of top-brass of the Police Department of Sikkim. When asked, they replied by saying they did not have the orders to take any necessary actions.
10. Wrong information was presented to the mass by the media. Biased and manipulated reports were shown in the news, printed media and some blogs.
11. The officials got a chance to make a statement to the news media whereas we did not. There was no one to speak for us.
12. Medical attention towards the local students was totally neglected whereas the other group was given full medical attention.
13. S.P. (East) Mr. MS Tuli lied to the local group in order to let some non-local students make a quiet escape in an army vehicle. His said there was an injured police official in the vehicle. When we saw what was truly happening, we tried to stop the vehicle but the S.P. and the I.G. ordered a lathi charge on us.
14. One local student was severely injured trying to save a lady who is a parent of one student in SMIT. Also innocent bystanders and citizens were also injured during the assault.
15. All the demands of the bihari non-local group were being heard while all the compromise was being done only by the local group.
16. Why are we not getting any kind of support from our Government? Whereas there are reports in the media and Government officials from other states speaking for them but we don’t have anyone speaking for us.
17. We are being blamed for every incident by media, local newspaper of Bihar and North East Channel, but the fact is we didn’t resort to violence.
18. Due to false national and local media reports innocent local students studying out of Sikkim who have nothing to do with this incident can be targeted and discriminated.
